Cynthia Man Biography
Cynthia Man received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in flute performance/piano minor from Eastern Michigan University under Dr. Rodney Hill and Joseph Gurt. She holds registrations in both Suzuki Flute and Suzuki Piano and has participated in master classes/lessons with Paula Robison, Samuel Baron, Toshio Takahashi, Shaul Ben-Mier, Dorothy Taubman and Noreen Ferris.
Originally from Michigan, Cynthia began playing both flute and piano in church at an early age with her mother, sister and brother. While still in high school, she was fortunate to be selected as a member of Musical Youth International, the first youth chapter of People to People. Traveling and presenting concerts in fabulous halls (Sydney Opera House), experiencing third world cultures (Belize and Tunisia) and coming face to face with communism (Yugoslavia) she saw what a positive impact music can have around the world - surpassing all language, political and cultural barriers.
As an active free-lance musician in Detroit, Cynthia was a member of the Detroit Concert Band, Detroit Woodwind Quintet and various chamber groups. She performed on the prestigious Brunch With Bach series at the Detroit Institute of Arts, was a frequent guest of the Brown Bag Recital Series at the downtown Detroit Public Library and numerous chamber recital series, church orchestras and musical theatre pit orchestras. Cynthia was chosen to be an artist/clinician for Omni Arts in Education, for whom she presented educational flute/harp programs for the Detroit Public Schools. Upon moving to Las Vegas, she continued her performances with the Nevada Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Nevada Chamber Orchestra, Nevada Opera Theatre and the Las Vegas Symphony (Philharmonic). She has been an orchestra member for Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli and Charlotte Church, recorded for television and Carnival Cruise Lines and continues to be active in church ensembles.
Faculty appointments have included: Detroit Community Music School, Marygrove College (MI), Madonna College (MI), Nevada School of the Arts and the Intermountain Suzuki Institute (UT). Cynthia is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Suzuki Association of the Americas and the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association. She currently serves as the Director of the Desert Suzuki Institute, Flute Coordinator for the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association and the Flute Coordinator for the SAA 2012 Conference. |
